April 1st, 2012 …

by Michelle B. Araneta

For those of you who don’t know … the first of April ends Women’s Month and brings in the Month of two special issues in the United States:  National Child Abuse Awareness and Sexual Assault Awareness.  This two issues are intricately related to Domestic Violence, but at the same time, they can also be found in separate situations.  Both issues (and I only use the word ‘issues’ for lack of better words) are abuse.  There is no debate about that and it is a fact that we should all come to realize.

In this short post, I only wanted to share the importance of this month, to remind people that months can mean so much more than just spring breaks, summer fun, or April fools day, depending on where in the world you are.  During this month, I urge you create awareness of these very important issues.  Speak out, create an awareness, and get involved even if just by wearing a ribbon.  These issues need to be addressed, but they will only be worth taking note of when we all stand up together and tell the world we refuse to let this happen to anyone.

Make a stand this April, show you support for National Child Abuse Awareness by at least wearing a solid light blue ribbon for the whole month and for supporting Sexual Assault Awareness, wear a teal ribbon for the whole month.

This week I will be showing my support by adding a ribbon to my home page.  I do hope to provide a link for those that are unable to find a ribbon to add to their site very soon.  So please keep tuned and please do give credit where credit is due.

Make a stand and let everyone know that we are no longer going to sit silently by, our time to speak up and say, “NO MORE” is… NOW!
